will be featured in new documentary on Drygen murders in New York.
i've never heard of these murders
Oh I heard of it. Its one of the many cases I researched in college.

The reason you never heard of it is because that was by design. The town did not want this case hitting the national spotlight. It was played down from start to finish. I'm actually surprised its even getting a documentary but maybe so much time has passed that they are willing to be more open about it. Thanks for mentioning that by the way. I'm definitely going to watch it.

This case is straight out of the worst horror movie you could ever imagine. What makes it even worse is they don't know and will never know what truly motivated the crime and exactly how it played out due to both girls being dead and the killer hanging himself in jail right after being caught.

What is known is that he was the next door neighbor of the Hajneys and he had some kind of interest in Sarah. No one remember him interacting with her before so this interest he had in her must have been kept secret.

Sarah's parents went on a short vacation and Sarah was left home alone. Instead of just staying home alone or even turning the house into party central, she had her friend and fellow cheerleader Jennifer spend the night. In a move that proved extremely fateful, they had a boy spend the night so they wouldn't be afraid....and the crime happened minutes after he left.

The girls were attacked as they were getting ready for school. Sarah was attacked in the shower. Both girls were abducted and taken to a cabin out in the boonies and for reasons unknown, weren't simply raped but were also tortured for what may have been hours before being mutilated, murdered and dismembered. He then threw body parts all over the place.

Its a fascinating crime with many unanswered questions. To commit a crime that deranged implies that it may have been personal. Why so much hatred for the girls, specifically Sarah, the real target? Some have wondered(as do I) if there had been a bit of history between the two. I'm not implying a fling but maybe he had come on to her before or the two had some sort of verbal exchange in the past. Another question was did he know that Jennifer was there. Since he was the neighbor, I assume that he did know. He was obviously watching the house since he waited for the boy to leave.

When researching the case back then, I had a 'theory' about it that I never saw mentioned. I think he had been stalking Sarah and seeing the boy spend the night sent him into an absolute rage and he spent that night planning his evil act. This helps explain the sudden nature of the crime. Sarah having the sleepover was the stressor that sent him over the edge and he simply 'lucked' into having two girls there instead of one. Some people believe the parents vacationing gave him the opportunity for the crime. That's true but I think it was the presence of the boy.

As terrifying as this case was, it could've been even worse. A third girl was supposed to spend the night with them but at literally the last second, she changed her mind and stayed home.

i've never heard of this case ever. now that ID mention i can read a could of articles on it.

for me the scary thing about the ID channel is that every day they feature new episodes, along with 20/20 and 60 minutes about SOLVED murders i've never heard of, in USA and Canada.

youtube has shows on Australian and New Zealand and UK murders.

but wow so many murders solved. how many murders more are out there and how many unsolved and never featured on any show? affraid

Good point.

While I have been interested in crime since junior high, I noticed something growing up. All the crime shows started repeating cases over and OVER again. You'd also see the same crime on multiple shows. Now that true crime has gone completely mainstream, there's a ton of shows and instead of just being able to rotate the same crimes, they have to start giving viewers 'fresh' material and this is clearly leading to covering crimes that should've been covered years ago, like this one.

This case deserved the national spotlight but no one heard of it. Had I not been in college taking a course where I had to 'investigate' a crime and given access to a large database to cherry pick from, I wouldn't have heard of it either.

People love cheerleaders. They love reading about murder. Murdered cheerleaders?!? It sells itself. I hope this documentary points out how the town intentionally buried the story.

I just googled this case. Its crazy how only one photo exists of each girl. Its still being buried somewhat although I just saw a great article about it.

I just remembered another home invasion I had researched back then. This one had very little publicity for some reason.

This happened in Vegas back in the late 90s. It was a group of guys, early 20s and a couple teens. They were close friends and they liked going to concerts and supposedly selling drugs at these shows. They knew a couple gang bangers in town. Anyways, one of the guys made a crucial mistake and bragged in front of these gang bangers about how much drugs they sold at those concerts. In reality, it was just gloating. They were small time, not real drug dealers. Just trying to show off.

A couple weeks later, one of those gang bangers really needs money. He remembers those white boys who have a bunch of drug money so him and a couple of his gang buddies decide to rob the white boys. They go over to their house, see one of them hanging out in the yard, and force him into the house where two of his friends are.

This is where it gets crazy and the unpredictability of home invasions rears its ugly head.

They have no money obviously. The gang bangers aren't leaving without money. They're in a real mess. So after being beat up a little bit, one of the guys gets an idea to call one of his other friends and see if he'll bring some money to give these gang bangers! Unreal! It gets even crazier. His friend drives over there! No cops were called. As soon as this friend gets there and clearly has no large sum of money but has nothing more than chump change, these gangt bangers tie up and shoot all four of these guys execution style. After that, they steal a Nintendo, a stereo, and a few other items. I think the total amount of stolen goods came to a couple hundred bucks.

That crime never should've happened. One of them trying to brag to a gang banger about drug dealing led to him and three of his friends getting murdered. Just pure stupidity.

Its also interesting how the friend who was called did not call the cops. Doing so would've saved their lives.

edit: I meant to post this in the other thread about the home invasion.

Be observant. Stacey had a stalker living within a few feet of her and she apparently didn't have the slightest clue. Having said that, is it really a coincidence that she had a boy stay over the night before her murder? Maybe she knew something but never said anything. It's an odd case. I hope that show goes into more detail.

On the Vegas murders, only one safety lesson can be learned. NEVER brag about money or drugs you don't even have to low life gang bangers. I feel so sorry for those guys. I understand why he did it although that makes it no less stupid. Young guys like to brag, whether its about sex, money, drugs, cars, etc. Its so unnecessary though. ONE guy running his mouth got four people killed. Speaking of running your mouth, that reminds me of another case although I don't remember their names.

A teen girl was injured in a wreck. She got a big insurance settlement but it was put in trust until she turned 18. She lived with her grandma and didn't have much guidance. Her and her boyfriend started telling people she had a bunch of money, I think it was around 60k. A black guy they knew asked them to come over to his house. he tried robbing them and when they told him she couldn't access the money yet, he killed both of them.

I don't tell people my personal business to that extent. Yeah friends and family know general things about me but I don't get specific. It's no ones business exactly how much money I have.
