time travel - my mathematical theory of time
Fri Dec 29, 2017 9:28 pm
i remember being in kindergarten and watching the clock tick and learning how to tell time, in terms of clock and date
and one question i asked is whether we can travel in time like we can travel through space
specifically, once the time passes, can we travel backwards
one of the earliest movies i saw on this is Back to the Future
other stories involving time traveling include Terminator, Star Trek, X-men animated series, Outer Limits, and most recently, Kung Fu Panda. Po finds seeds that lets him travel backwards in time, but in the wrong hands, of a bad owl, she goes back in time to prevent the parents of his friends from ever meeting.
So I spent some time reading what other thinkers have said about time. About McTaggart's theory of A-time vs B-time, eternalism, presentism, 4 dimensionalism vs 3 dimensionalism, Einstein and the theory of relativity, time in quantum mechanics as well as time in string theory. Time and thermodynamics.
Time is considered a dimension like space, but the properties of time is very different from the properties of space.
Time, though can be represented as a spatial line, in physics.
So here's my theory of Time and its relation to space, at the quantum level, quantum geometrical level.
Space is described by 3 real numbers and has 3 real dimensions, length, width and height, measured in meters, the the product is a real number volume measured in meters cubed.
We measure time that we experience as a real number, measured in units of time or seconds.
What time is at a fundamental level, is a Kaluza Klein extra dimension, but is the product of an imaginary number.
An imaginary number is the square root of -1 and is called i.
sqrt -1 = i
so i squared i^2 = -1
Kaluza Klein theory, an important part of string theory, is that in addition to the 3 large spatial dimensions, there are additional hidden dimensions, 9 in string theory, that are curled up. These dimensions are real dimensions.
In my theory, there are 3 large spatial dimensions, and each spatial dimension has an additional imaginary dimension, described by i.
so with length there is another dimension i, width there is another dimension i, with height there is another dimension i.
the product of the 3 real dimensions gives space, 3 dimensional space, measured in real numbers.
the product of the 3 imaginary dimensions is different
i * i = -1
-1 * i = -i
-i,
my theory explains why time has a direction, and it always goes in one direction, from the past to the present to the future
it has a direction in terms of a (minus) sign.
it also explains why time is seemingly one dimensional and can be represented as a one dimensional line, i
and it also explains why time is so different from space. Where as space has 3 real degrees of freedom, time has a direction, and only one degree of freedom, -i
we experience space as real numbers and as enclosed in 3 dimensions
we experience time as imaginary number, but we measure it using real numbers in terms of time
so the actual geometry of the universe is 6 dimensions, 3 real dimensions, and 3 imaginary dimensions
space is emergent product of 3 real dimensions described by 3 real numbers
time is emergent, product of 3 imaginary dimensions described by 3 imaginary numbers
if this mathematical theory is correct, perhaps all of fundamental physics has to be re-written in 6 dimensional, 3-real 3-complex geometry
gravity and general relativity has to be expressed in this new geometry
and quantum mechanics and quantum field theory would also have to be re-written.
we can only access the 3 real dimensions. we have no way of accessing the 3 imaginary dimensions, the product of which gives rise to time.
possibly many puzzles in physics can be solved by expressing it in 6 dimensional complex geometrical space
higgs hierarchy problem, quantum gravity, deterministic quantum mechanics etc
3 generation of fermions
Stephen Hawking spoke of imaginary time. time and an imaginary number. My theory differs from his in that time is itself described in terms of imaginary numbers that represent dimensions having imaginary degrees of freedom.
so mathematicians and physicists working on a theory of everything, if my theory is correct, need to work out the geometry of a 6-dimensional 3-real 3-imaginary kaluza klein like theory, and re-write the standard model and general relativity in terms of this space

Re: time travel - my mathematical theory of time
I don't have a theory but I do believe there will be a breakthrough in our lifetimes. It wont be man that figures it out. It'll be AI.
They better dot all the i's and cross all the t's before unleashing that.
It's gonna figure out a way to bring along its existence into the world sooner and this will lead to the breakthrough. One problem though: The human mind may not be able to comprehend how it was done.
I've wondered if at least a few of the so called 'Mandela Effects' are AI experiments and if they are, it's much further along than is known publicly, although that's true of most tech.

Re: time travel - my mathematical theory of time
i think AI figuring it out could mean our end, see Terminator movie LOL.
but yeah why is travel in space easy, just move your finger, but travel in time, esp backward in time, impossible?

Re: time travel - my mathematical theory of time
I don't think its impossible but I also don't think its going to work in the typical way it has always been presented.but yeah why is travel in space easy, just move your finger, but travel in time, esp backward in time, impossible?
If the universe is some sort of simulation(and that's looking to be the case), we're gonna be able to go backwards and forwards at any point. it'll be like rewinding or fast forwarding a VHS tape.
AI is absolutely frightening. A few defense contractors are clients and I've talked with some people and some of the things I've heard are mindblowing.
In 2013 at a Christmas party I attended we were all drinking and just carrying on in general. One guy told us that something is coming within a decade that is going to transform our lives and have a bigger impact than the internet. A good conversation starter no doubt and it turned into a guessing game on what it's gonna be. I knew he would never tell even if someone was right.
The funny thing is several of those guesses were probably right. A lot of things are coming within a decade. We're at a strange moment of history. The transhuman era is fast approaching. We're also going to see the death of paper currency in our era. The system is ready for this and has been for years.

sounds like a good time to be a doomsday prepper
