the murder of Jeffrey MacDonald family occurred sometime before At 3:42 a.m. on February 17, 1970

the science of forensics that existed on At 3:42 a.m. on February 17, 1970 was quite different from what it is today, and especially DNA testing.

there was copious amounts of blood and blood spatter at the crime scene,

in the 1970s they did this,

The MacDonald family all had different blood types — a statistical anomaly that was used to theorize what had happened in their house.

they used ABO blood group testing on the blood.

what they did NOT do was DNA testing on the blood. since The MacDonald family all had different blood types, hippie intruders had they cut themselves and bled out, would have a blood type that matched one of the blood spatters found.

would it be scientifically acceptable to only perform ABO blood grouping and not DNA testing on it?

similarly, in 1970

this was a listing of what was lost

MacDonald’s attorneys argue there was ample evidence of intruders: wax drippings of three different types of candles found at the home that did not belong to any candles the MacDonald’s owned; long, blonde synthetic wig hairs found in a hairbrush next to the phone in their apartment; black wool fibers found on the mouth and bicep area of Colette and one of the murder weapons that were not matched to any fabric in the home; numerous unidentified fingerprints, palm prints and footprints at the crime scene that did not match MacDonald’s or his family’s and other evidence they say was lost or destroyed due to what they say was the government’s “inept handling” of the crime scene. (Among this other evidence, they say, was skin recovered from underneath Colette’s fingernail and Jeff’s pajama bottoms.)

if Jeffrey MacDonald was black, and say his wife was white,

is it acceptable to "lose"

(Among this other evidence, they say, was skin recovered from underneath Colette’s fingernail and Jeff’s pajama bottoms.)

evidence that could be tested for DNA, to determine which version of events occurred?

if there was a major murder case where the question was intruder or family member, and the prosecution simply "loses" such evidence and DNA testing on it, how would the court rule?

similarly,

DNA test results released by the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory on March 10, 2006, showed that neither Stoeckley's nor Mitchell's DNA matched any of the tested exhibits. A limb hair found stuck to Colette's left palm matched MacDonald's DNA profile. It also matched hairs found on the bedspread from the master bed and on the top sheet of Kristen's bed. A hair found in Colette's right palm was sourced as her own. Three hairs, one from the bedsheet, one found in her body outline in the area of her legs, and one found beneath Kristen's fingernail did not match the DNA profile of any MacDonald family member or known suspect.[52]

how would this affect the investigation in 2019?

would MacDonald be free until investigators can find the source of this DNA?

there are 2 possibilites,

hippie intruders acid is groovy

or

MacDonald did it acting alone,

DNA testing can help ascertain which version of events actually occurred.

i think MacDonald should be set free pending DNA results of testing all the items and blood spatter of the entire crime scene and DNA testing on murder weapons and gloves.

all DNA results entered into CODIS and genetic genealogy done on all unknown DNA.

perhaps other finger nail scrapings can be found, or maybe rape kits taken.

maybe the Innocence project should be involved on testing all items at the crimes scene for DNA.

this,

(Among this other evidence, they say, was skin recovered from underneath Colette’s fingernail and Jeff’s pajama bottoms.)

DNA testing of this, which was lost, is the single most important evidence for either intruder or MacDonald's guilt.
