board games i actually played and my fav board game
Sun Jul 08, 2018
personal computers and gaming consoles were rare in the late 70s and early 80s
so i learned to play board games
at school we had recess, and normally we played outside,
but when it rained we played inside and we had board games
a popular one was UNO
i learned checkers and chess and even then chess had a cachet that only genius could play it.
i learned to play chess but it was extremely time consuming and almost impossible to finish in a single recess
my elementary school also had board games like hungry hungry hippos
and monopoly
of my peers and neighbors who was also a genius had Battleship Board Game
which we played
this game is an honor system, in that you have to truthfully report if they identified a target
he also tried to teach me Axis and Allies, but it took a long time to play
the board game i enjoyed most, and this was late 70s early 80s was
stratego
i always won every game i played
and i even beat the genius
like battleship
this game is an honor system, in that you have to truthfully report if they identified a target
i used the same exact strategy every time i played
i put 2 bombs on each side of the lake so that all the actions happened at the center.
i then put the flag in corner, surrounded by 2 bombs.
the first row consists of #9 scouts. i used them only in the center.
i always won with this strategy. amazingly when i played other kids over and over, i still used the same set up and won
as i played it the lower number beats the higher number, except the marshall which is #1 can be killed by the spy, who can be killed by anyone else.
#8 miner is the only piece that can remove bombs.
goal is to capture the enemy piece, we move piece say what number or rank and if it is lower we can get the piece.
by whittling away the other enemies army the pieces disappear so the remaining piece of identifying the flag became easier.
most assume the flag would be in the last row, where it is protected by the most pieces.
fun times, before video games and pc's were common.
when i was first learning these board games,
there was no personal computers or video game consoles anywhere, as far as i knew, this is how to have fun.
