URBANDALE, Iowa - Kara Elizabeth (Behlke) Ungerman passed away due to complications after giving birth to her firstborn child, Oliver Nolan Ungerman, on Fri. Aug. 4, 2023. Before she passed, Kara and her loving, devoted husband, Andy Ungerman, were able to share this miraculous moment.

Kara was born on Jan. 18, 1983, in Wray, Colo. She was baptized and confirmed in the United Methodist Church. She loved growing up on the family farm in Benkelman, Neb., and participated in 4-H. Her passion for food and nutrition was apparent early on. She received her Girl Scout Gold Award, was active in FFA, FBLA, National Honor Society, and participated in band, basketball, volleyball, and track. She graduated as Salutatorian from Dundy County High School in 2001. She was also a devout christian and member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale.

Kara pursued her passion for all things nutritious and delicious while attending University of Nebraska - Lincoln, where she graduated with a B.S. in Dietetics and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Kara’s dedicated pursuit of this career continued as an intern at the Yale Medical Center; working for the New York Beef Council; as a dietitian with Hy-Vee in Marion, Iowa; Corporate Dietitian and Director of Brand Strategy at Schnucks in St. Louis; and Vice President of Nutrition Health & Wellness Transformation at the National Pork Board in Des Moines, Iowa.

Dr. Cascetta was a Hematology-Oncology specialist with Mount Sinai in New York City.

Cascetta entered the baby's room around 7am on Saturday in the town of Somers, which is in Westchester County, New York, and shot the child before turning the gun on herself in her $1m home.

Cascetta's husband was away at the time and not involved in the shooting — but her parents were inside the house during the fatal shootings.

On the morning of August 5, 2023, a devastating incident unfolded in the town of Somers, prompting a call to the police due to a shooting at a residential location around 7:10 a.m. Responding swiftly, the officers discovered the lifeless body of the shooter, who had taken her own life through a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Tragically, before her own demise, she entered her child’s room and ended the innocent child’s life as well.

A Texas teen died after the state’s ban on abortion stopped her from getting life-saving medical care while experiencing pregnancy complications.

On October 28, 2023, the day of her baby shower, Nevaeh Crain woke up with a headache. Shortly after, the 18-year-old, who was six months pregnant, developed a fever followed by nausea and vomiting.

She struggled through her baby shower and by 3 p.m. her family decided to take her to the emergency room, ProPublica reports.

Crain’s boyfriend Randall Broussard drove her to a nearby hospital where they sat in the waiting room for four hours. Staff reportedly gave her a plastic pan as she continued to vomit while waiting.

After testing, Crain was diagnosed with strep throat.
