A 15-year-old girl was charged Wednesday with fatally stabbing a seven-year-old on a playground in a quaint English suburb.

The suspect, whose name was not released due to her age, was hauled into York Magistrates Court in North Yorkshire on charges that she murdered Katie Rough during the attack, the Daily Mail reported.

The teen had allegedly brandished a Stanley knife and stabbed Rough in the neck and chest on the playground Monday afternoon. Her motive remains unclear.

Minutes after the assault, Rough’s parents got word of it and rushed to the scene only to find their daughter at death’s door.

Katie’s mom fell to her knees and shrieked, “No, no, my little girl!” witnesses told site.

An ambulance shuttled the girl to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Residents described Katie as a sweet girl who always played with other children and enjoyed drawing with chalk on the pavement, according to the Telegraph.

“Katie was a pretty, lively, angelic-looking little girl who loved to play out with her friends in front of their home,” said one resident. “She was a lovely, sweet, smiley little girl and the thought that this happened to her is heartbreaking, it’s hard to believe.”

During the eight-minute court hearing, the defendant gazed forward while her lawyer responded to questions from the court about her name and address.

The brown-haired teen was clad in a baggy gray sweatshirt and flanked by court officers as she stood in the center of the dock.

She is due back in court Friday.

A TEEN accused of murdering a seven-year-old girl with a Stanley knife has stood silently in court as she faced a judge over the heartbreaking tragedy.

The 15-year-old was arrested after little Katie Rough was found in a field suffering lacerations to her chest and neck just minutes from her York home.

The teen appeared via video link at Leeds Crown Court this morning, not uttering a word during the five minute hearing.

The defendant, who appeared from a different room wearing a purple sweatshirt and black trousers, sat with a solicitor but did not make an application for bail.

Members of Katie's family attended the hearing and sat on the jury bench to listen to the proceedings.
