Dawn Massabni, 56, from New Jersey, US, is desperate to raise awareness of the condition after losing her beloved girl Maddy three days after her 19th birthday.

She told Fabulous Digital: "She was only 19, she had her whole life ahead of her. I knew she had her period, I changed the trash.

"But she was changing her tampon like she was supposed to, she was doing everything right."

"Maddy arrived home and had diarrhoea, a fever and vomiting. We both thought it was just a bug - the kind we've all had before."

Dawn nursed Maddy throughout the night, but her condition didn’t improve the following morning.

She said: “Still, I wasn't unduly concerned as she was a really healthy young woman who exercised and ate well. There was no reason why she should have been so ill."

Maddy’s condition continued to deteriorate, and Dawn recalled waking on March 29 to find her daughter critically ill.

Dawn said: "She could hardly move. I got her up to walk and she moved just a few feet but she was like a robot, barely able to function.

“Then, within minutes, she had deteriorated rapidly. She was dying. TSS ravages a body within days and that is what happened to Maddy."

Dawn called the paramedics. They tried to resuscitate Maddy, who had lost consciousness.

She said: “I had my arms around her saying, 'Don't leave me, I love you'.  She died there, in my arms, in her bed. It was awful."

Medics rushed Maddy straight into intensive care, where they discovered all her organs had shut down.

"She was my little girl and my best friend. Along with her brother we were a team. I didn't want her to go. But she had total organ failure."

Dawn says she is still haunted by the moment Maddy died. "I still have nightmares about that. No one wants to say goodbye to their child."

An investigation into Maddy’s death found that she was wearing a tampon and had gone into toxic shock.

TSS is caused by either staphylococcus or streptococcus bacteria.

New Jersey State police said in a statement: 'The New Jersey State Police is investigating the death of 10-year-old girl who sustained fatal injuries after she was ejected from an amusement ride at the Deerfield Township Harvest Festival.

'Based on the preliminary investigation, on Saturday, October 12, at 6:18 p.m., the victim was ejected from a ride called 'Extreme,' which is a Wisdom Super Sizzler amusement park ride.

'As a result, she sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Cooper Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased at 7:20 p.m.

'The cause and circumstances remain under investigation, and there is no additional information available.'

In January 2017, after only 10.5 hours on the transplant list, her parents received a call saying they have a heart. Her operation was a success and she lived a further 21 months before gaining her wings, due to complications from the transplant.

Another young woman in Williams Lake has died following Saturday’s fatal car crash near Williams Lake.

Faith Liberty Unger, 19, died Monday morning at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops after her family made the decision to take her off life support and offer her organs as a donor.
Unger is the second person who has died as a result of a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 20 in the early morning hours Saturday. Autumn Weir, 17, was declared dead at the scene.

A 19-year-old Missoula woman is dead after a crash on I-90 Wednesday.

She's identified as Rowan Hopkins-Doherty.

Montana Highway Patrol said the crash happened just after 5:20 PM Wednesday, east of Missoula.

The woman was driving a Ford Bronco westbound on I-90 when she reportedly went off the right side of the road. MHP said the vehicle was airborne, went over the on-ramp, struck a tree and caught fire.

Hopkins-Doherty was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rowan Hopkins-Doherty died when her Ford Bronco went off Interstate 90, struck a tree and caught fire. She was a 2019 graduate of Big Sky High School.

Hopkins-Doherty was the driver and there were no passengers in the vehicle.

Speed was the only factor listed by the Montana Highway Patrol in the crash incident report, which is still under investigation. The crash was the 145th highway fatality in Montana in 2019.

She was born June 27, 2011, in Topeka, the daughter of Terry and Becky (Thornton) Ralston. She was a third grader at Overbrook Attendance Center.

a Dodge pickup was heading west when the driver lost control on the icy road.

The pickup crossed the center line and hit a Ford SUV head-on. A red car then rear-ended the SUV.

Eight-year-old Cassie Ralston, of Scranton, was transported to a Topeka hospital where she was pronounced dead.
