venus fly trap and jess of the triangle
Thu Sep 13, 2018
there's a plant nursery with trees close to where i live.
they have venus flytraps and pitcher plants. i saw them, think its neat reminds me of my own futility to keep these suckers alive.
my current all time favorite paranormal time themed movie and story is Jess of the triangle. my life experiences is a lot like what jess experience
its esclipses though still honorable mention the outerlimits stories of dr theresa givens going back in time to kill the killers before they kill and the nazi episode karl radamacker.
here's a time travel story
since in the 70s and 80s there was no internet
i had to rely on books
Childcraft : The How and Why Library ; Volume 6 The Green Kingdom
this is the actual book i owned and read starting in preschool
that book and again we are talking 70s now, had an entry on the venus flytrap
i still remember that entry it was like 2 pages in that book, and it talks about the lace wing
it said a lace wings lands on a venus fly trap, and then the trap closes on it, and it then gets eaten.
no more lace wing.
i still remember reading it after all these years.
unlike dinosaurs, venus fly traps are still around. so i first read about the venus fly trap from a book, this book.
one day as a kid i visit Dominicks a grocery store,
i saw it and begged my parents to buy it, they agreed and i took it home. i had a venus fly trap. i then tested what the book said by putting a cricket it in there and sure enough it closed on it just like the book said.
but then a couple weeks later, the trap rotted. then the whole plant died.
at this point Dominick's no longer had any venus fly traps and i was bummed.
a year later, they had it, and this time i decided to buy it again, with my parents of course.
i put in a small cricket and touched the traps, and then it closed.
the trap rotted, and it died.
at this point Dominick's no longer had any venus fly traps and i was bummed.
a year later, they had it, and this time i decided to buy it again, with my parents of course.
i wanted to keep it alive longer so i didn't feed it.
but it still died. i later learned that you have to use distilled water, not tap water.
at this point Dominick's no longer had any venus fly traps and i was bummed.
a year later, they had it, and this time i decided to buy it again, with my parents of course.
i asked my parents to buy a gallon of distilled water, and i also collected rain water.
but it still died.
at this point Dominick's no longer had any venus fly traps and i was bummed.
a year later, they had it, and this time i decided to buy it again, with my parents of course.
i put it in direct sunlight.
but it still died.
at this point i felt like
no matter what i tried, it died. a year later they'd come back. they return when all the venus fly traps are all dead.
if i could somehow kept all the venus fly traps that died under my care, it'd look a lot like this
unlike jess of the triangle, around junior high i lost interest in this sort of thing and i accept that venus fly trap is dead, unlike tommy of the triangle.
the venus fly trap is dead. there is nothing i can do to save it. can i give you a ride?
yes take me back to frank nursery, which i learned also carried it.
i give up. i accept that i can't keep these plants alive.
the venus flytraps under my care wind up on this
what i learned is
putting any insect or food in the traps can cause them to rot, and when that happens, the whole thing dies
putting in direct sunlight is too strong they die
tap water kills them
they need to be kept in an enclosure or they die
to warm and they die
if you go on vacation and return, they often die
put them in a saucer of water can cause mold to grow, then they die.
let them dry out, they die.
put them in dim light away from sunlight, they die
i learned all this from attempting to keep them alive under my care.
i have the exact opposite problem with crabgrass on my lawn
but i still remember from age 4 of reading about venus fly traps in a book then around age 6 going to the grocery store and actually seeing it live and in person.
