As many of you have heard, our dear Holli has been battling a very rare, and horrible side effect of the international pandemic COVID-19. Since early January, Holli has been fighting calciphylaxis which has caused very deep, painful, tissue deterioration, internal and external ulcers and serious infections. She has been in and out of the hospital numerous times; undergoing serious treatments and costly procedures in attempts to help her heal. Because of the severity of her condition, she has been unable to work.

Holli is one of the kindest, most sincere, giving people many of us will ever have the privilege of knowing.

She formerly attended the Grace Baptist Church. Roxann had worked at Rent-A-Center, Ft. Wayne, IN, High Street Bar, Montpelier, IN, and cleaned offices in Bluffton, IN. She enjoyed car racing, NASCAR & Jeff Gordon, and Harley Davidson.

Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” led to the popular food blog, the Julie/Julia Project, a movie starring Meryl Streep and a new following for Mrs. Child in the final years of her life, died on Oct. 26 at her home in Olivebridge, in upstate New York. She was 49.

Her husband, Eric Powell, said the cause was cardiac arrest.

Kristin Fight Leiomyosarcoma Cancer

my dearest friend Kristin. She is entering a serious fight against the rare and aggressive Uterine Leiomyosarcoma (Uterine LMS), sometimes known as “fibroid cancer.”
On December 15, 2021, Kristin (48 years old), underwent major abdominal surgery to remove what was thought to be benign fibroids. The surgery went well and our plan, as soon as she recovered, was to visit Banff National Park to celebrate good health and thirty years of friendship. However, just two days before Christmas 2021, her pathology report came back with very different news. Kristin was diagnosed with high-grade Uterine Leiomyosarcoma. Everything changed that day. They say when one person has cancer, everyone that loves them has it too. We’ve been in crisis mode ever since; we are determined to do everything we can to help her.

There isn’t a lot of research on this type of “fibroid cancer.” What we discovered is that LMS is hard to detect before surgery and is often discovered only after the surgery is over. Meaning that removing a wide margin of clean tissue is not part of the initial process. Discovering LMS after the fibroid surgery is gut wrenching and needs to change. But right now, our focus is getting Kristin through this.

Major surgery was not the fix we were hoping for. In January 2022, her post-operative scan showed that ULMS was still present in other organs, including a spot on her lung.

For strength, I am bundled under one of the quilts she made. This is the update I never wanted to write. Kristin passed away early Sunday morning, November 6, 2022. The loss, although anticipated, remains heartbreaking to all of us.
