In early July, my friend Ann Marie Kelly Neave and her family were on vacation in France. Their 8 year old daughter Eilidh (who they always called Thing 2) got sick and was diagnosed with Type B meningitis. She was airlifted to a major triage hospital. Shortly after that a CAT scan showed no brain activity and she was declared clinically dead. Ann Marie and Stuart wanted to donate her organs so she had to be on life support for several days so high powered antibiotics could be administered to clear the organs of the disease. The 911 call came in at about 10:25 a.m., Orem Police Lt. Trent Colledge said.

She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and then flown by helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, where she died from her injuries later that night.

The golf cart was neither directly behind nor directly in front of Aria's father, according to Colledge. He said the cart was between 45 and 90 degrees to the father's left.

Aria went golfing with her dad often, her uncle, David Smith, said. He described her as her father's "golfing buddy."

"She loved doing it and had a good time with it all," Smith said. "That was one of their things that they would do together. It was something that was really important to them and something they did all the time. "

Steven Marett, the head golf professional at the golf course, said that while he'd occasionally seen people get hit with golf balls at the course before, he had never heard of anybody there being killed by a ball or even seriously injured.

"This is absolutely unimaginable, and it’s been devastating to see it at the course and in the community," Marett said.

Police are investigating the incident but Colledge said Aria's death appears to be a "tragic accident."

A 19-year-old girl is dead after a wreck in Killian on Highway 444.

Louisiana State Police says the wreck happened just after 11 p.m. Thursday, July 18 on Highway 444 west of Highway 22. Megan Shoeman, 19, of Livingston, was killed as a result of the crash.

LSP’s initial investigation shows the wreck happened as Shoeman was driving a 2014 Mazda 3 east on Highway 444 at a high rate of speed, when for reasons still under investigation, she ran off the road to the left and hit a tree. The vehicle began to flip and overturned.

Although Shoeman was wearing her seat belt, she was partially ejected from the car, LSP says. She was pronounced dead on the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. A passenger in the car was also wearing their seat belt and sustained moderate injuries. LSP says it’s suspected Shoeman was driving under the influence.

Police say a Hyundai was traveling southbound on 51st Avenue and entered the intersection at Thunderbird Road on a red light.

The driver collided with an eastbound garbage truck which was proceeding through the intersection on a green light, according to police.

After the initial impact, the two vehicles became entangled and skidded eastbound, where they struck two large trees.

As the two vehicles finally came to a stop, the garbage truck had tipped over on top of the Hyundai.

Ella was a passenger in the Hyundai. She died at the scene.

The 16-year-old driver of the Hyundai remains in stable condition.

Officials said she fell from a bluff about 75 feet above the river and fell on the bank below. She did not fall into the river.

The fall was on the Duck River Trail near the Cheeks Bend Bluff Trail Head on Cheeks Bend Road.

A young woman has died after she was hit by a speedboat while diving with her father on holiday in Croatia.

Verena Heinz, 20, was killed instantly and her father was injured in the accident in Malinska, a settlement on the island of Krk.

According to local media, Verena and her father, a diving instructor, had just risen to the surface about 300 metres from the shore when a local sped through the swimming area on his speedboat and hit the pair at full speed.

The injured father pulled his daughter out of the water despite his own injuries but she could not be saved.

A 9-year-old girl was killed and her mother suffered a broken neck and may be paralyzed from the neck down after a solo-vehicle, rollover accident, Sunday morning, July 28. CHP officers learned the driver of the Excursion, later identified as MaryAnn Knutson, 38, was driving westbound on Millville Rd. at about 70 miles per hour, when she attempted to pass a slower moving vehicle, according to CHP.

As MaryAnn pulled back into her lane of travel she lost control of her SUV, causing it to careen off the south side of the road, where it then crashed through a fence and rolled several times, coming to rest on its wheels, CHP described.

Family members of the victims have since explained, “MaryAnn, Sierra, Whitney and Trinity Knutson got in the car to go to town while brother Bryson stayed at home with family and TJ was at work at the Emergency Room.”
