“As a mother who diligently taught her the ropes of what was okay to ingest and what was not, I feel lost and angry because she knew her limits and was aware of familiar packaging, she knew what ‘safe’ was,” her mom said.

An 11-year-old has died following a dirt bike accident in southern Erie County.

Officials say the accident happened Saturday evening off New Oregon Rd. near the Eden-North Collins border.

At the time, the girl was wearing a helmet and safety boots, and riding an age and weight-appropriate bike. She was later identified as Sidney Sidote.

When the accident occurred, officials say Sidote was trying to cross the road, but ran into the side of a passing vehicle.

She died at Oishei Children's Hospital after first being taken to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital.

Mowery was headed North on State Route 43 when she drove off the side of the road, striking a drainage pipe and sending her car airborne. Upon landing, her car rolled end-to-end, ejecting Mowery from the car. She was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The pair was out for a morning walk July 23 when a driver lost control of an SUV, hopped the curb and hit them on the sidewalk.

The suspected drunk or drugged driver charged in their deaths — 22-year-old Callie Schwarzman — has a long, dangerous history behind the wheel, including a prior DUI, two hit and run cases and charges for driving on a suspended license.
