According to police, she worked as a lifeguard for the Town of Cheektowaga, and was on her way to work when the accident occurred.

Police say Lorenz was crossing west at the Kensington Expressway on-ramp when she was struck by a 2009 Pontiac G6 driven by a 36-year-old Amherst man.

Lorenz would have been a junior at Cleveland Hill High School this fall.

Police say the driver of the car was cooperative and that no charges are pending.

A community mourned and searched for answers Tuesday following the deaths of a teenage couple that shot and killed themselves a day earlier while on a country road near their Goldsboro high school.

The pair appeared to be in love, from pictures on their social media accounts to when they walked the hallways at Rosewood High School.

They seemed inseparable, said Alex Brogden, a senior who played football with Garrison last year.

Garrison and Porter became an item at the end of last school year.

“They always seemed happy to me,” he said. “I never saw them mad at each other, or anything like that.”

But it was something that led Spenser Terry Garrison, 16, and Malia K. Porter, 15, to Capps Bridge Road near their school. Something that made Garrison put a handgun to his head and squeeze the trigger as he sat in his pick-up truck. Something that made Porter take the same gun and shoot herself outside the truck.

It was unclear whether the pair was in the vehicle together or if Porter went to the truck with a friend.

A Winona Senior High School student was killed in a car accident Friday afternoon in Houston County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 16-year-old Sophia Allena Moe was a passenger in a car traveling north on Hwy. 76 near Scenic View Drive. The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway, according to the report.

Anissa took action when she began to observe Allyson’s behavior. She brought all her children together to talk about what they were going through. They agreed they would all get help from counselors and a psychiatrist with YSS in Ames.

In May the psychiatrist recommended putting Allyson on Prozac, an antidepressant, which seemed to help her at first.

“We thought she was improving,” Anissa said.

But then Allyson started cutting herself.

Cutting was something Allyson’s father had done, the family noted. The family removed all of the knives and sharp objects from the house. However, when Allyson couldn’t find things to cut with, she started burning herself and trying to hide that as well. She took a lighter and used a stick.

Anissa talked to the therapist. She wondered if getting Allyson a dog might help. Her father always had pets around, and Allyson loved animals. They already had cats and she was always doing research about their habits and what was best to feed them. The therapist thought a dog was a good idea, so the family adopted a two-and-a-half-year-old Pomeranian named Sprinkles.

It was July 2 when the dog came home. It seemed to perk Allyson up, her mom said, but by the end of that week, Allyson burned herself again. At her next appointment with her therapist, she shared that the dog “only helped 50 percent.”

And only 12 days after getting her dog, Allyson was gone, leaving those who knew her best — her family, close friends and teachers at school — in shock.

Sian Waterhouse was a "bubbly" teenager before getting a mobile phone for Christmas and becoming a regular user of Facebook and Snapchat.

The 16-year-old was struggling with fallouts with friends in the weeks before her death.

Following an episode of self harm, the teenager was given counselling by mental health experts and was advised to block former friends on social media.

But despite appearing to get better, Sian was said to be in a "dark place" and told one doctor: "I feel like my heart is sinking."

As she prepared for her mock GCSEs following a Sunday afternoon shopping trip in February last year, Sian left a handwitten note on her dining table and was subsequently found hanged at her home in Morecambe, Lancs, by her stepfather.

According to a report from the Sheriff’s Office, 911 received a call Saturday evening about a child possibly shot in the shoulder at a residence in the 400 block of Highway 120. When first responders arrived around 7:30 p.m., the girl was taken by ambulance to Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigator Jody Batton said he and Investigator Dana Saltkill are still trying to determine exactly how the incident happened, but indications are it was accidental.

An older family member “was either cleaning (the gun) or clearing (any bullets from the weapon’s firing chamber) when it went off,” Batton said.
He added that statements from all the people at the residence about what happened are consistent, which helps indicate it was an accidental shooting.

The Harrison community is mourning the death of a teenager killed in a car accident.

Kayla Duerler, 16, died Wednesday in Reily Township after her vehicle collided with that of a Butler County excavator. Her grandparents, who were passengers in the car, remain hospitalized with serious injuries.

Kayla was about to enter her junior year at Harrison High School, where she was recently named a drum major. She was known as a quiet leader who didn't want to be the center attention but worked behind the scenes to make things happen.

"Students like Kayla are the heart and soul of our school," Principal Matt Lindley said.

On Thursday morning, classmates and friends gathered at the Coffee Peddlar to remember Kayla.

John Calabrese, the associate pastor of Lifespring Community Christian Church, read them a prayer Kayla had recently written for her friends.

It reads in part, "Use every painful experience, every heartbroken moment to mold them into the person you want them to be."

"When I mentioned that journal writing, there wasn't a dry eye there because they know what she stood for," Calabrese said. "Her faith was everything to her."

Her words will hopefully provide guidance in the community.
Kayla was a giver and a pastor's daughter who always put her trust in a higher power.

"She wanted people to know Jesus because that's where she found her strength and her peace from. We see that in her journal writings. We see that in the life that she led," Calabrese said. "Her life will not be in vain because we see the change happening here in this community, in this school, and it's because of what they know she stood for."

"I think mom and dad and the family want to celebrate her life," Lindley said.

Kayla Duerler, 16, died of traumatic injuries, when the car collided with a large piece of machinery near the intersection of Bunker Hill Woods Road in Reily Twp., according to the coroner’s office.

Two others were injured in the crash. One person was transported by medical helicopter to an area hospital.

Harriet and her mother, who is in her 30s, had left the beach and climbed steps leading on to rocks at Seaton Garth beach in the seaside village of Staithes.

The youngster, from Oxford, was struck by the stone 30ft away from the steps.

"According to an RCMP press release, the woman was in medical distress after jumping from the bridge into the channel," the newspaper reported.

Stailey’s arrest comes more than a week after police arrested Lamont Wilkerson, 20, and Lillian Barnett. Wilkerson is charged with murder and burglary; Barnett, 18, is charged with complicity.

Police have said shots were fired during a home invasion and one of the bullets went into the apartment below, hitting 19-year-old Amber Caudill. Her fiance called 911 and performed CPR, but she died from her injuries.

According to police reports, Stailey and two other men entered the apartment with intent to commit a crime. A gunfight broke out, and four people were shot. Caudill died; the other three were injured. Investigators have not released any other details about their condition.

In one day, the family lost their daughter, her grandmother and another child who was a family friend. Their two young sons barely survived. They were about 500 yards from the house at the time of the crash.

"We were getting ready to go to church my mom had picked up the kids to take them to Sunday school," Bethany's father Blake Bertling said. "She had crossed over the railroad tracks and stopped at a stop sign and a man was coming in a one-ton truck —he fell asleep — come off the road and she was stopped and he T-bones her on the side of the car."

Blake Bertling says his two sons were taken by helicopter to Dell Children's Medical Center. He says the trauma doctors and nurses saved their lives.

State Police say the teen was traveling on Interstate 30 in Saline County Saturday afternoon, when her Jeep went off the road and hit a support pillar at the Military Road overpass. According to State Police, the teen was the only one in the vehicle, the cause of the crash is under investigation.
