A community is in mourning after the sudden death of a 16-year-old girl over the weekend.

Evie Campbell, 16, was killed after the vehicle in which she was a passenger left the road and crashed into a tree Friday, March 30.

A brave 10-year-old girl who fought a lifelong battle against a cruel lung disease has died in hospital while on the waiting list for a transplant.

Belle Curran needed a lung transplant to survive, having been diagnosed with interstitial lung disease when she was just two.

The condition meant her lungs were stiff and hard, and not spongy like they should be - making it difficult for her to breathe.

Belle had to breathe three times faster than other children as she fought against the condition

When Elisha Furneaux complained of having back problems, her family thought it was because she had a new job as a trainee nursery nurse.

They innocently thought that bending down to pick up the children was the source of the teenager's pain.

But when it didn't get any better they took Elisha to the doctor, who, they said, prescribed painkillers.

Frustrated by several trips to the doctor without anything getting any better, it was decided that an X-ray should be ordered.

But, as her devastated family found out, it was too late.

What the family thought would be a slipped disc or back injury was diagnosed as a rare form of cancer called undifferentiated soft tissue sarcoma. Six-and-a-half months later, Elisha died aged just 17.

Emma says: "Before she got the results from the X-ray, Elisha collapsed at home as the tumour had broken through her vertebrae and was in her spine. Everyone was so shocked and in disbelief.

"You just don't expect cancer when your child has been fit and healthy and a normal 17-year-old. Apart from a bit of a bad back that we put down to where she was working, Elisha had no other symptoms.

"By the time she was diagnosed, it had spread to her lungs, kidney and pelvis. The initial word 'cancer' devastated our lives. You come out of it a completely different person and you never get back to the person you were.

"One day everything was fine, everything was great, then the next we came home and it had all changed and there had been no warning."

Much-loved Elisha Carter had spent a lot of this year in hospital battling the disease, which had ravaged her spine, kidneys and lungs and left her paralysed from the waist down, before she returned home in August.

Speaking to the Cambrian News upon her return to Tywyn just a few weeks ago a determined Elisha, who was diagnosed shortly after her 17th birthday, was focused on gaining her qualifications in child healthcare and regaining the use of her legs.

But devastatingly, last Wednesday afternoon Elisha suffered a serious setback which saw her rushed to hospital, where she tragically died a few hours later.

Caroline Elise Smith, 20, of Sandy Springs, Georgia, died April 6, 2019.

“Moments later (the boyfriend) advised she fell to the ground and was unresponsive,” the report says.

Smith’s boyfriend yelled for help and began CPR, the report says.

EMS worked on Smith for several minutes before pronouncing her dead. The report says the 911 call was made at 11:58 p.m. Friday.

Multiple people interviewed by police said drugs were not involved, but each noted that guests had been drinking.

Police have released the name of the Mason woman killed in a crash Sunday on U.S. 127.

Keara Ann Bullen, 19, died in a multi-vehicle crash early Sunday afternoon on U.S. 127 near Taft Road in Bingham Township, according to the Clinton County Sheriff's Office.

Dispatchers sent police to the area at 12:32 p.m. Sunday. The crash occurred at U.S. 127 and Taft Road, south of St. Johns, and police pronounced Bullen dead at the scene.

Police found three vehicles involved in the crash and several other vehicles in a ditch, according to a news release.

Police said Bullen was traveling northbound, lost control, crossed the median and struck two vehicles going south. The passenger in Bullen's vehicle was uninjured, police said.

Other vehicles involved in the crash included a silver Dodge Avenger sedan carrying four people. They were treated at a hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The aspiring actress was standing on the platform for the 4/5/6 train line around 3:30 am when she somehow wedged herself between a train and the platform. Authorities are investigating the cause of an ATV crash that claimed the life an 8-year-old girl in Johnston County over the weekend.

It happened Saturday, just before 6 p.m., on private property in Mannsville when an adult female and four young children were riding an ATV.

“There was an adult female and four juveniles that had been on the four-wheeler – one of the juveniles had got off,” said Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s Lt. Shelby Humphrey. “At this point, we don’t know why but the four-wheeler rolled forward and struck the juvenile that was off the four-wheeler on the ground.”
