She began feeling ill on Sept. 20 and tested positive for COVID-19 the following day, when she was also diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes, according to her uncle, Derek Schofield.

“This combination, along with pneumonia, caused her health to rapidly decline,” he said.

Destiny Hope Kling, 11, of Chatham, left us at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at St. John's Hospital.

Destiny was born October 16, 2009, in Springfield, the daughter of Walter Thomas Kling and Trisha Kay Dillon.

Abby Bosarge died early Thursday morning after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Her mother made the heartbreaking announcement, saying:

Abby died at 5:00 am in her own room surrounded by loved ones. It was not an easy passing. She fought it to the very end. But her suffering is finally over. Thank you so much for your unwavering support during the unthinkable. Please continue to pray for our family. The world is a much darker place for us now and we will never be the same again.

Abby was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a very aggressive form of cancer, in June 2020. Since that time, Abby’s bright spirit never dimmed, shining through to everyone around her.

A fatal school bus crash killed a 14-year-old girl and the 31-year-old driver in Pennsylvania on Tuesday.

There were 13 students on board when the bus hit the back of a tractor-trailer on a highway in Muddy Creek Township just after 4:30 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

The girl who was fatally injured — identified by loved ones as Brylee Walker — was "seated directly behind" the bus driver, Lindsay Thompkins, at the time of the crash, per police.

Two students were airlifted to a local hospital and are in stable condition, while an additional two students were "treated and released" with minor injuries, police said. The remaining students were examined on the scene and released to their parents.

Six-year-old Ember Young died in the head-on crash near Logan Lake on Thursday after the car she was in lost control in snowy conditions and ended up in oncoming traffic. Her five-year-old sister and mother were injured in the crash, which happened as the family was trying to relocate to a friend’s house after spending days in a hotel in Kamloops.

Sonja Engelbrecht from the district of Laim in Munich went missing on April 11, 1995. Before that she went to a restaurant called Zum Vollmond in Schleißheimer Straße 82 with a two years younger male friend and went later to a party in Schellingstraße where they met two other friends of him.

After the party the two left around 2am. She had to pee outside and made a remark about how she felt watched by someone unseen. She tried calling her sister while he left by tram a bit later. Sonja‘s sister never received a phone call. Which would have been unusual for her anyway. There are doubts, Sonja even went to Stieglmaierplatz. There would have been phone booths and tram stations already earlier, so they wouldn’t have needed going that far.

In April 1992 one of her legs was found, previously frozen. In summer one of her arms was found, also previously frozen. A bit later an anonymous woman called the police, claiming to know the house where the woman was killed, but she never bothered telling an actual address or place.

Her thigh bone was already found in July 2020 by a forest worker in a forest near Kipfenberg (near Nuremberg, opposite direction of her hometown) in Bavaria, Germany. Thanks to DNA testing it was confirmed that it was a missing woman from Germany. Police keeps searching the area for more bones. The motorway that goes from Munich to Nuremberg is only 1.5km away.

Cline team from Southwest Missouri is helping one of its own families cope with the tragic loss of 13-year-old Monrhowe Aaron, who was killed in a car accident late Saturday night when the Ford Festiva she was riding in ran off the road and overturned striking a fence. The young athlete was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brooklyn Secor lit up the room with her huge smile and bright blue eyes. The 9-year-old enjoyed gymnastics and making slime, and loved planning events like family birthday parties. Her younger brothers especially adored when she would entertain them, overseeing fun activities.

But Caleb and Oliver lost their big sister, and Christina and Daniel Secor lost their precious oldest child on May 20, 2021. In what’s believed to be the first case of its type, Brooklyn died from anaphylaxis after eating a small bit of food as part of a dairy desensitization therapy.

The girl from southwestern Ontario, Canada was allergic to dairy and had asthma. Under an allergist’s advice, Brooklyn had progressed to eating a daily tiny piece of muffin containing baked milk. The aim was to reduce her sensitivity to dairy.

Brooklyn had not had any previous reactions to her baked milk doses and had generally been feeling well through six months on the protocol. Yet she did awaken with an asthma flare-up during the night on May 19, and used the rescue inhaler.

Then the next evening of May 20, within two hours of eating her usual muffin bite, the girl was sneezing and wheezing. Christina initially attributed these symptoms to her child’s environmental allergies and asthma – it was spring. (Previously, Brooklyn had only had one milk anaphylactic reaction as a young child where epinephrine was administered.)

Christina helped Brooklyn take some puffs of her rescue inhaler. About 15 minutes later, she was feeling itchy, so the mom next gave her child Benadryl, the family’s go-to for minor allergic reactions.

Just after having the antihistamine, Brooklyn blurted out that she needed to go to the hospital. Her mom raced to give her an epinephrine auto-injector shot. But in administering the injector, Christina pulled it from her daughter’s leg immediately – rather than waiting the required few seconds. Unsure in this emergency if the medication was fully dispensed, she gave the child a second epinephrine injection and called 911.
With the ambulance on the way to their home in Woodstock, Ontario, the mother and daughter headed to the front hallway. Brooklyn suddenly seized and collapsed. Her mother lay the girl down, and frantically called 911 again, following instructions to start chest compressions. As she did so, she noticed Brooklyn was struggling hard to breathe.

The paramedics arrived, and Christina thought they would be able to help Brooklyn. But with the sleeping boys at home, the mother could not accompany her daughter in the ambulance. When Christina was able to get to the hospital, she was told her daughter had died in the ambulance. Despite the efforts of hospital staff, there was nothing they could do.

“It was a shock and a horror. This can’t be true. It was an absolute nightmare,” recalls Christina, who is speaking out now in the hopes of raising awareness of the seriousness of food allergies, and to stress to others not to put off giving epinephrine in a reaction. “I don’t want anybody else to hesitate, like I did.”
Desensitization and the Milk Ladder

Brooklyn’s tragic death is the first known fatality in the world related to dairy desensitization, says Dr. Douglas Mack, who co-owns Halton Pediatric Allergy near Toronto. Mack, who did not know the girl, has been offering private practice OIT for nine years for a range of food allergens.

“Took her off life support and she…and she died at 8 a.m. this morning,” the grieving father said.

San Juan Hills High School junior Kennedy Stonum had COVID. She had no preexisting health issues, but she wouldn’t get a vaccine for the coronavirus.

“Myself and my wife and he grandmother pleaded, pleaded with her. I think like most teenagers, she felt indestructible. I know I did when I was that age. She didn’t know enough about the vaccine and she did know enough the virus that she would risk the virus,” Stonum said.

Kennedy’s COVID illness caused a series of life threatening complications that came on quickly, according to her dad. The teenager had multi-system inflammatory syndrome and a rare disease that caused her immune system to attack cells in her body.
